| 1. Counting Korean Words | |||||||||||
|
Question: I have a document written in Korean. According to your "Rates" page, a Korean page full of texts usually translates to about 200 - 350 English words, which I can use for cost estimation. But I still want to know roughly how many words each page has. What are the units (clusters) I see in Korean texts? Are they words? Answer: Each of the units or "clusters" you see in a Korean text is a syllable. A number of syllables combine to form a word. In the example shown, the Korean sentence has 4 words (and 13 syllables). Note that the English translation of this sentence has 8 words. This type of expansion occurs when Korean is translated into English, because Korean is much "denser" in meaning.
